People usually refer to dogs as a cute member of the family, man's best friend, pure fun and affection, and even in the last years like fur babies, but they require a lot of owner's commitment and responsibility, and perhaps not everyone has what it takes to handle that. This is why the dog's behavior is a serious point to take into account in every local community. On the other hand New York City is a large urban center with apparent strong pets legislation, with mandatory dog registration, laws against dangerous dogs, and clear ways to report dangerous pets and more to the NYC Health Department like this link https://www.nyc.gov/site/doh/health/health-topics/animals-and-wildlife-report-animal-bite.page.
Given this data, now we have the opportunity to deeply analyze this subject matter to understand the behaviour of dogs and, ultimately, that of their owners in a sample as broad as New York, where there are various types of neighborhoods and residents, in order to get useful insights to improve local regulations and coexistence.
Next we are going to extract all we can from the new-york-gog-bite-data-2025 dataset which has reports of dog's bites from 2014-12-31 to 2023-12-30.
