This project is inspired by my own experience as a competitive swimmer in my teenage years and my lifelong passion for the sport. Today, world-class swimming performance sits incredibly close to the limits of human capability. Breaking a world record—or even becoming a top-ranked athlete—requires not only the ideal physical traits and early, disciplined training, but also the economic stability and national infrastructure that allow an athlete to focus entirely on high-performance development. In other words, these swimmers represent the top 1% of the top 1%.
This dashboard explores the physical and socio-economic profiles behind the world’s fastest swimmers, providing a data-driven perspective on what it takes to reach the absolute peak of the sport.
